Typical of the dwellings of Perigord Noir, its steep rooftops with a deep patina of the ages seem to reflect the secret of an ancient alchemy practised within the rustic shelter of its walls built of stone gathered from the region.   However the savoir-faire of the Gatinel family was born outside of these walls. It is linked to the history of its founder, Raymond Gatinel, who began building his reputation as a ‘traveling distiller’. The image of this true original, traveling from farm to farm with his team of horses pulling the imposing copper still, remains in the hearts and minds of those who remember those bygone days! Today the secrets of this special knowledge which go into the making of quality traditional eaux-de-vie have been passed onto his son Jacques Gatinel.
